Instrumental Music - Band AMI 3M1

This course develops students’ musical literacy through performance and the preparation and presentation of music productions. Students will perform works at a level consistent with previous experience. Independently and collaboratively, students will use current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes to plan, produce, present, and market musical productions. Students will respond to, reflect on, and analyse music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers.

This course provides students with opportunities to develop their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music, including traditional, commercial, and art music. Students will apply the creative process when performing appropriate technical exercises and repertoire and will employ the critical analysis processes when reflecting on, responding to, and analysing live and recorded performances. Students will consider the function of music in society and the impact of music on individuals and communities. They will explore how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.

Music Theatre AMT 3M1

PREREQUISITE: Grade 9 or 10 Music, Open. Students with a strong interest in this course and previous music experience may enrol in this course without the stated prerequisite.
If you take this course, "AMR3O5 - Repertoire - Music Theatre / Choir
" is strongly recommended

While learning a full-scale Broadway production, students will take an holistic approach to the study of music theatre. Each student will have an on-stage role where they will learn voice production, movement and acting. In addition, each student will participate in a production role – set design, scenic painting, prop design, costuming and staging. This course culminates with a final performance in a professional theatre.

Keyboard Music - Experienced AMK 3M1

CREDIT: 1 TYPE: University/College GRADE: 11
PREREQUISITE: Grade 9 or 10 Music, Open
Students should have at least two years of previous piano instruction for success in this course. Students with a strong interest and experience may enrol in this course without the stated prerequisite. Students with no previous piano instruction should enrol in AMK3M6

Music and Computers AMM 3M1

CREDIT: 1 TYPE: University/College GRADE: 11
PREREQUISITE: Grade 9 or 10 Music, Open
Previous keyboard experience is strongly recommended.

This course is ideal for all interested and aspiring songwriters and sound engineers. Throughout the Music and Computers course you will study the concepts of songwriting, improvisation and creating original musical material using sequencing and recording software. Students will work both independently and collaboratively using current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes. Each person will respond to, reflect on, and analyze music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers. Students will perform works at a level consistent with previous experience. This course is ideal for students interested in the foundations of songwriting, recording engineering, and music producing.
